Repair and Revitalize With Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation in popular culture is a term used to describe the process of repair and revitalization of the internal and the external genitalia. This includes surgical and medical restoration of the vaginal and pelvic floor injuries sustained during a vaginal delivery. It also includes cosmetic tightening of the vaginal tissue and changing the appearance of the external genitalia, for example vulvar reduction and shortening the clitoral hood. There are also procedures that enhance sexual pleasure and sensation that fall under this term.

The primary culprit in pelvic floor and vaginal tissue damage is vaginal delivery. Laboring woman pushes the baby’s head into the pelvic floor and stretches the muscles, nerves, connective tissue, of the vagina and the surrounding structures, such as the bladder and rectum. Prolonged pushing, difficult operative vaginal delivery requiring forceps or suction cup, and the mother’s genetic predisposition to pelvic injury, results in sustained injury that presents in the post partum period as prolapse, gaping of the vaginal opening or decreased vaginal tightness.

Vulvar elongation, discoloration, clitoral hood drooping and enlargement, and shortening of the distance between the rectum and the vagina as a result of tearing of the vaginal opening may also be an aftereffect of a vaginal delivery. These changes can cause irritation, increase chance of bladder and vaginal infection, as well as disruption of sexual gratification, and cause for decreased sexual self esteem.

As a Pelvic Surgeon and Uro-Gynecologist, Dr. Tahery offers all the non-surgical and minimally invasive surgical options available to treat and rejuvenate the effected organs. We use pelvic floor muscle exercises and pelvic floor therapy, hormonal treatment, as well as rejuvenating procedures to address each affected organ and tissue.
