According to Dr. Tahery, an expert in diagnosis and treatment of vulvar and vaginal disorders, millions of women deal with vaginal laxity, or looseness of the vagina. Unfortunately, stigmas surrounding the discussion of issues like this force many to deal with the negative aspects of vaginal laxity in silence. But you don’t have to settle for undesired looseness.

This problem is more common than most realize, affecting most women at some point in their lives. It’s not just a cosmetic issue. Laxity can negatively affect sexual function, bladder and bowel function,  impacting your lifestyle, self-esteem and overall quality of life.

Fortunately, there are ways to address it. Vaginal tightening treatments and procedures are available to help you regain your confidence and get your life back.

Causes Of Vaginal Laxity

As per Dr Tahery’s experience, there are many potential causes for vaginal looseness. One of the most common is trauma during childbirth. Estimates say that roughly 20 percent of new mothers have vaginal laxity three months post-birth. In about 12 percent of women, the issue persists beyond 12 months. It’s common for looseness to occur after childbirth due to stretched tissue.

Many women also seek vaginal tightening procedures when experiencing laxity caused by pelvic floor disorders. Looseness can also be a problem that comes with aging. After menopause, hormonal changes cause many noticeable changes in the body. One of them is less elasticity in the vaginal lining caused by lower estrogen levels.

Ways To Tighten Your Vagina

No matter the cause of laxity, several treatment options exist to address the issue and restore elasticity. What’s right for you depends on your unique case. That’s why it’s important to seek professional care. After a thorough examination, Dr. Tahery, a urogynecologist expert in treatment of vaginal and vulvar disorders, can identify potential causes and develop a vaginal tightening treatment plan that addresses your needs.

There are some of the ways to tighten the vagina:

Laser Vaginal Tightening

One treatment utilized by Dr Tahery in mild cases of vaginal laxity is laser vaginal tightening. It’s a form of vaginal rejuvenation that doesn’t require surgery or substantial downtime. It’s an outpatient procedure that triggers improvements from within, using your body’s natural biological processes.

It’s not a one-and-done treatment option. Laser vaginal tightening typically requires multiple sessions, the number of which varies based on your needs. However, many women experience great success.

This vaginal tightening treatment works via lasers and radio frequency waves. Providers use equipment that produces energy to stimulate the thickening of vaginal tissue. Lasers trigger your body to produce more collagen and elastin while stimulating blood vessel growth.

Surgical Repairs

Surgical techniques developed by Dr Tahery can be used for more advanced cases of laxity. These procedures address the damaged muscles and connective tissue and are more extensive and may require some downtime. However, the results are often very impressive and don’t require multiple repeat sessions. There are several techniques used to tighten the vagina via surgery.

Dr Tahery has developed anesthetic protocols allowing these operations to be performed under local anesthesia.

Vaginoplasty procedures involve tightening the muscles inside the vagina. This surgery can also repair the pelvic floor and vaginal walls. Many women choose to get vaginoplasty along with other cosmetic surgical procedures, such as labiaplasty or clitoral hood reduction. Dr Tahery’s techniques have helped many women reverse the damaged vaginal and vulvar tissue and restore health and function.

Hormonal Treatment

For women experiencing vaginal laxity due to menopause or other hormonal issues, this option may be the right solution. Hormonal treatment aims to increase estrogen levels. Higher estrogen levels can thicken the tissue on the vaginal walls by boosting your body’s production of elastin and collagen.

Hormonal treatment may also address other menopause-related issues. For example, it often generates more natural lubrication to address vaginal dryness and discomfort. The most common methods for hormonal treatment include oral hormones, topical products, or pessaries.

Non-hormonal Treatment, SILK

Dr Tahery has formulated a non-hormonal treatment option, SILK, with a similar benefit profile as hormone therapy without the side effects associated with hormones. Ideal for women who can not or do not want to use hormones.

Pelvic Floor Therapy

Another way to tighten your vagina is through pelvic floor therapy. The feeling of tightness, especially during sexual intercourse, typically comes from the pelvic floor muscles around the vagina. Pelvic floor disorders, childbirth and aging can weaken those muscles.

Pelvic floor therapy can tighten your vagina by strengthening those muscles. There are many guided exercises you can do to experience vaginal tightening and a stronger pelvic floor over time. Therapy may also include stretches, electrical stimulation, biofeedback devices, and more.

Extreme weight loss is no easy feat, and it deserves all the praise in the world. Taking charge of your body and health is nothing short of inspirational, and you’re likely reaping the rewards of your hard work every day. Your weight loss journey can positively impact your health in many ways. Meanwhile, your slimmer figure can make you feel more confident than ever before.

All that said, the transformation can also create or unveil new insecurities. With significant weight loss often comes excess skin. After years of stretching, the skin loses its elasticity and is incapable of bouncing back. It may tighten over time, but many weight loss patients opt for surgical procedures to see improvements.

Most people are familiar with the risk of skin issues that occur around the midsection, chest, and arms. But one less talked-about result of weight loss is a saggy labia and vagina. Luckily, labiaplasty and vaginal repair after weight loss can address this issue and provide the transformation you want.

Why is My Vagina Saggy?

Why is a labiaplasty and vaginal tightening after weight loss even necessary? A saggy vagina occurs for the same reasons as sagging skin elsewhere in the body. It doesn’t matter if you gain 50 pounds or 100. Extra body fat causes the skin to stretch. The effects are most apparent in the labia and the vagina.

Weight gain can cause damage to collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. So when you start slimming down, the tissue cannot shrink and bounce back. You can experience drooping skin on any area of your body. But it’s especially problematic around the labia and vaginal supportive tissue. The vaginal lips can become uneven or protrude. Labial unevenness is typical for all women, but weight loss exacerbates the issue and can create that unwanted sagginess.

It doesn’t help that vaginal lips experience changes naturally. Hormonal changes , pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause can all negatively impact vaginal elasticity. Throwing weight loss into the mix can create the perfect storm of excess skin, making it an issue you can’t ignore.

RELATED: Why Is My Labia Shrinking?

Most people concern themselves with the extra skin on more visible parts of the body, but a saggy vagina can cause a slew of issues that warrant labiaplasty and vaginal tightening after weight loss.

From a health standpoint, that saggy excess tissue can cause noticeable discomfort. Depending on the severity of the issue, you might experience pain wearing certain types of clothing or when riding a bike. Even intercourse can become an uncomfortable experience.

On top of all that, there’s the self-esteem aspect. After losing weight, you’re supposed to feel confident in your skin. You’ve transformed your body, and many women want to show it off. But the extra tissue forces many women to continue hiding. Sagging labial skin is often visible through underwear and tight-fitting clothing.

Fortunately, solutions are available to help you address this issue, reclaim your sexual health, and finally obtain the confidence you need to feel good about your body. One option worth exploring is a labiaplasty and vaginal tightening after weight loss.

Labiaplasty After Extreme Weight Loss

Labiaplasty is a popular surgical procedure that can significantly improve the look of a sagging vagina. It’s a cosmetic procedure that aims to reduce or reshape the vaginal lips. Many women seek labiaplasty after weight loss, turning it into the final steps of an extreme weight loss transformation.

This procedure is relatively straightforward. The goal is to achieve a more uniform look by removing excess tissue and tightening the skin of the labia minora and labia majora to achieve a smoother look.

There are a few different approaches to completing a successful labiaplasty and vaginal tightening. Dr. Tahery will speak with you and go over your needs. After a visual examination, he can determine the best course of action based on your unique situation.

RELATED: What is Labial Hypertrophy?

The procedure itself doesn’t require significant downtime. In most cases, women return to most of the everyday activities within three to seven days, and full recovery usually takes four to six weeks. But despite its straightforward nature, a labiaplasty after weight loss can be a life-changing procedure.

It creates a more youthful appearance, addressing the uncomfortable look and feel of a saggy vagina to generate that spark of confidence you need to conquer the world. Weight loss is a change you should feel proud of achieving, and a labiaplasty offers the finishing touch you need to enter the next stage of your life.

If you’re struggling with the less desirable effects of extreme weight loss, turn to Dr. Michael Tahery. The vagina is one of the most misunderstood parts of a woman’s body. Since the dawn of time, misconceptions and myths have run rampant. There’s no greater source of confusion about the vagina than issues concerning tightness.

The concept of having a loose vagina is one that’s been around for centuries. But the truth is that vaginal elasticity is complex. It’s surprisingly resilient. However, it can change throughout your life due to hormonal fluctuations, major life events, and more.

Here’s the truth about some common myths about a loose vagina.

Vagina Looseness and Sex

Everyone’s heard this myth and all of its associated jokes before. Contrary to popular belief, the vagina doesn’t become loose after having “too much” penetrative sex. No matter how much a woman has sex, the vagina can bounce back. It’s an incredibly elastic organ that adjusts for sexual activity.

Sure, the tissue becomes more relaxed before, during, and after sex. However, this “looseness” is no different than your mouth opening wide to eat or yawn! No matter how many times you stretch your mouth, it always rebounds back to its original shape. The same applies to the vagina.

Another misconception is that the hymen causes the feeling of a tight vagina. Despite the myth of virgins and broken hymens, this thin tissue doesn’t totally cover the vaginal opening. It merely surrounds the opening. After penetrative sex, the hymen can stretch and make the vagina feel more open. However, it doesn’t always tear or impact sensation.

Women with vaginal looseness are likely experiencing other issues. It’s not a product of too much penetrative sex.

The good news is that there are several ways to address tightness concerns. Vaginal tightening encompasses surgical procedures, laser treatments, and more. Tightening can improve elasticity to increase sensation for both partners.

Childbirth Causing Loose Vagina

The female body goes through some extreme changes during pregnancy and after delivery. While many believe that childbirth can loosen a tight vagina, the reality is a little more complicated than that.

The vagina is a powerhouse of elasticity that can stretch to accommodate a baby during birth. The tissue does loosen as the muscles relax to make way for the baby. However, the tissue usually shrinks back down to its pre-pregnancy state with time.

So, why do many women report changes to vaginal elasticity and sensation after birth?

In many cases, it’s because of damage to skin, tissue, and muscles.

The pelvic floor muscles are particularly prone to damage after giving birth multiple times or a difficult vaginal delivery. In addition to changes in sensation, pelvic floor issues can lead to a host of health problems in the future. The same goes for damage to connective tissue. Vaginal changes are common after giving birth.

Fortunately, vaginal tightening is available to address them. A Vaginoplasty can repair the pelvic floor and walls for a tightening effect. Meanwhile, a Perineoplasty can repair the muscular and connective tissue that supports the opening of the vagina.

Aging and Hormonal Changes

The most common cause for a loose vagina is aging. As a woman nears the end of her reproductive life, hormone production starts to wane. During perimenopause, the transitional phase before menopause, estrogen levels drop significantly. The decline directly impacts an otherwise tight vagina.

The vaginal lining can become dry, resulting in less tightness. During intercourse, the vagina will produce less natural lubrication as well. Overall, the tissue becomes less elastic as it loses resiliency.

Many of those changes are manageable with treatment, but some changes are expected as women approach menopause.

Loose vagina myths have created a lot of confusion in the women’s health sphere. While most of the misconceptions about the vagina have no basis in fact, there are instances in which women can benefit from tightening procedures.

Births, physical injuries, tissue loss, and even physiological aging are the most common reasons why women undergo aesthetic procedures performed in the perineum, i.e. the area located between the vagina and the anus. The reason is both the desire to change the appearance of the skin and the opening but also to improve the quality of life and sexual pleasure. Perineoplasty, also called perineorrhaphy,  is the surgical excision of lesions and adhesions in the perineum and restoring the muscles in the opening of the vagina. Its purpose is also to restore the correct shape of the vagina which has been deformed due to injuries, in particular injuries associated with the delivery and perinatal processes. Thanks to the treatment, a woman has a chance to have a satisfying sex life while also improving the aesthetics. Perineoplasty will not cause any complications for your next pregnancy if you do plan on getting pregnant again.

Signs you might need perineoplasty:

  • The presence of unsightly scars after rupture or sewing of the perineum
  • Difficulty emptying the bowels or prolapse of the reproductive organ
  • Dissatisfaction during sexual intercourse
  • Recurrent vaginal infections
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Soreness when touching the perineum or wearing tight underwear
  • Pathological scar lesions
  • Weakness or sagging of the perineum

RELATED:  Why Is My Labia Shrinking

The Procedure

Perineoplasty is performed using minimally invasive surgical techniques that allow faster healing and less visible scars. The perineum is anesthetized locally but it is also possible to perform the procedure under general anesthesia. During the operation, the excess skin is removed and the deeper muscle layers are repaired, then the edges of the wound are brought back together with sutures. Perineoplasty is an outpatient procedure and usually lasts from 30 minutes to an hour. After a few hours of observation by the doctor, the patient can leave the clinic.

After Perineoplasty

Perineoplasty is an outpatient procedure and the patient usually leaves the clinic just a few hours after its completion. In the first days after surgery, it is possible to feel pressure and pain and also burning in the surgical areas. For a week or two after the procedure, the perineum may be swollen. The skin usually heals without complications, and there are no scars. For approximately 6 weeks after perineoplasty, patients should refrain from sexual activity in order to allow for proper healing.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Active vaginal infection
  • Abnormal pap smear results
  • Cancer
  • Vascular blemishes
  • Coagulation disorders

Before Perineoplasty

Perineal plastic surgery is preceded by a preoperative visit during which the doctor obtains medical history and performs an examination to find out what your goals are. Some testing may be required and it varies based on your age and medical history. It is possible to perform multiple corrective procedures at the same time.

During this visit, Dr. Tahery will explain to you the alternative treatment options and risks and benefits. This is also an opportunity for you to ask all your questions before scheduling your surgery.

You need to limit smoking (to 3 cigarettes a day) or give up prior to the operation. No fasting is required if the operation is performed under local anesthesia. If general anesthesia is used, 8-hour fasting is required.

Dr. Michael Tahery with practices in Los Angeles and Glendale provides the best possible care during the whole process, from your first consultation until you are healed. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Tahery or to learn more about perineoplasty, please contact us.

Vaginal Rejuvenation and Labiaplasty are surgical and laser procedures that women usually opt for after they have given birth, gone through some hormonal changes or as they age and experience weakened vaginal muscles, change of shape or color of the vagina. These procedures are not purely cosmetic as they can treat certain forms of discomfort and can also heighten sensitivity during sexual intercourse. Because of how popular these procedures are becoming especially in places such as Los Angeles, they can oftentimes be incorrectly labeled, therefore it’s important to understand what each of the two procedures actually entails if you are thinking of getting them. Labiaplasty is basically a procedure that seeks to alter the labia minora or labia majora while Vaginal Rejuvenation is a term used to refer to a number of procedures that aim to make the vagina look and feel more youthful of which labiaplasty can also be included. The following are some of the key differences between Labiaplasty and Vaginal Rejuvenation:

Areas Where The Procedure is Performed

The key difference between a Labiaplasty procedure and Vaginal Rejuvenation is the area in which the procedure is performed. Labiaplasty is performed either on the labia minora or labia majora in order to reduce the size or to reshape it. Vaginal Rejuvenation, on the other hand, involves a lot of different areas such as the walls of the vagina and can also include the Labiaplasty procedure among other procedures such as vaginal tightening

RELATED: Labiaplasty and Clitoral Hood Reduction

Expected Results

Another important difference to consider before choosing a procedure is the expected result after the procedure. Labiaplasty is for women who want to alter the look of their labia or to prevent any discomfort that might be caused by the labia. Hence the expected results after Labiaplasty should be the change in the shape of the labia or vagina and reduce discomfort during intercourse or exercise. It’s also important to note that Labiaplasty does not tighten the vagina nor heighten sensitivity during intercourse. Vaginal Rejuvenation, on the other hand, is a combination of multiple procedures including Labiaplasty. This means that the results can range from a tightened vagina, increased sensitivity, and improved aesthetics of the labia and overall vagina.
